The Muskegon County Road Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the technical and professional position of County Highway Engineer. This highly responsible position directs and performs engineering tasks within a seven-employee department under the supervision of the Director of Engineering. Work involves the exercise of a high degree of independent judgment and discretion in the interpretation, application and enforcement of engineering principles and practices, laws, regulations and policies relating to county highway programs.

Applicants for this position must have a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering; comprehensive knowledge of modern methods and techniques of highway construction and maintenance; must have the exceptional ability to communicate in writing and orally; the ability direct the work of others; ability to plan, organize and direct large and small scale engineering projects and programs; ability to institute and direct construction planning and research for the advancement of work and personnel standards; ability to coordinate and integrate the work of the various departments; and be in good physical condition.

The ideal applicant must also have progressively responsible engineering experience in planning, constructing and maintaining highways, bridges and related structures and graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major work in civil engineering; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Registration as a professional engineer by the State of Michigan is required.
