Brief Description:
Under broad guidance the Environmental (P3) Technician:
a. Acts as a lead and performs technical work of a routine nature involving the collection of a range of environmental monitoring and permit compliance samples
b. Conducts field sampling, chemical analyses, routine inspections and other work under general supervision
c. Initiates enforcement actions in the field in accordance with HRSD Industrial Wastewater Discharge Regulations and the P3 Enforcement Response Plan
Job Requirements:
Education
1.Required
a) Associates degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related science (as approved)
2.Desired
a) Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related science
b. Experience
1.Required
Personnel are fully qualified at a Grade 5 with an Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related science (as approved) and three (3) years of directly related experience in P3 field operations.
2.Training Levels
The following training levels and years of experience are established for personnel who are not fully qualified:
a )Grade 5a – Associate’s Degree in appropriate field and two (2) years applicable experience
b) Grade 5b – Associate’s Degree in appropriate field and one (1) year applicable experience
c)Grade 5c – Associate’s Degree in appropriate field and no applicable experience
Note: An appropriate degree requiring more college credits than an Associate’s Degree and/or advanced degree(s) will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy some of the training level requirements.
c. Job-specific Technical Competencies
Required
a) Basic functional knowledge of industrial wastewater regulations and procedures
b) Basic knowledge of methods, equipment and processes pertaining to sampling of environmental and wastewater samples
c) Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
d) Knowledge of safety and confined space entry requirements
e) Ability to use MS Office products at an intermediate level of proficiency and a variety of other profession-specific programs (e.g. iPACS, Sample Manager) at an intermediate level of proficiency
d. Special Licenses
Required
a) Valid driver’s license from state of residence
