Highway Engineer
Grant County, an Equal Opportunity Employer, located in Elbow Lake is currently accepting applications for the position of a full-time Highway Engineer.
Required qualifications include a high school diploma and a Bachelor's degree with coursework in civil engineering, or related and extensive experience in highway and bridge design and construction. The selected candidate must be a licensed professional Engineer, registered in the state of Minnesota. The position, under limited direction of the County board, performs complex professional and difficult administrative work related to the design and construction of engineering projects and maintenance of the County's roads, bridges and legal agricultural ditches, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the County Board. Departmental supervision is exercised over Technician Supervisor/Drainage Inspector, Highway Accountant and Highway Maintenance Foreman.
The Highway Engineer Supervises, manages and handles all personnel related issues within the Highway Department. Oversees the daily operations, priorities and activities of the Highway Department. Conducts and performs professional engineering responsibilities in overseeing and designing construction and maintenance projects. Oversee the administration, inspection and maintenance of the County Ditch System. Evaluates, analyzes and applies engineering principles, practices and procedures in the design of projects utilizing reports, maps, drawings, preliminary plans, tests, aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geological data used to plan and design projects to state, federal and other agency standards, requirements and guidelines.
The Highway Engineer is a full-time, exempt position. Beginning pay will depend on training and experience. Health insurance and pension benefits are also offered.
