American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. has openings for Engineering Manager – Controls Engineering at its facility in Detroit, Michigan.  Job duties include:              

  1. Manage department engineers, communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, and appraise job contributions; recommend hiring and compensation actions; adhere to policies and procedures.
  2. Set priorities and scope of work for the design of equipment and systems, approve electrical and mechanical layouts for controls required to manufacture components and assembly of front/rear axles including PTU’s and RDM’s and electrically driven vehicles.
  3. Recommend electrical controls system architecture, products, components and applications used in automotive manufacturing. Guide the interface selection/development to upper-level system architectures.
  4. Ensure electrical design specifications are understood and followed by suppliers.
  5. Create and test traceability design specifications and maintain traceability programs in automotive manufacturing.
  6. Troubleshoot production equipment and suggest/implement permanent resolutions in automotive manufacturing.
  7. Provide engineering advice to production personnel and skilled trades on layout and wiring techniques.
  8. Meet controls engineering financial objectives by estimating requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  9. Manage outside contractors, vendors and OEMs for new equipment purchases and approvals along with guiding their technology development.

Position requires:  Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or foreign equivalent education, and 8 years’ experience working in the automotive controls industry. 8 years’ experience is required in each of the following:

  1. Engineering design and development of mechanical and electrical layouts for controls
  2. Testing new traceability technology used in automotive manufacturing
  3. Creating electrical controls design specifications for automotive manufacturing
  4. Troubleshoot production equipment and implement solutions for the automotive manufacturing.

 

Experience may be obtained concurrently.
