Job Description:  Project Engineer - Launch Vehicles and Satellite Systems

You will report to the CDI's Program Manager - Space Vehicles and Satellite Systems. Working with minimal supervision, you will lead a senior technical / integrated product team to develop and deliver engineering. You will work with engineering management to plan, staff, and execute projects at the client's site, and with supporting CDI engineering centers in the USA. You will serve as engineering interface to CDI's Program Manager, senior leadership, and to Client technical staff. You will lead the technical design, engineering, development, integration, and transition to production.

 

The Project Engineer is responsible for engineering and schedule coordination of program activities between the client, CDI's Program Manager, and CDI's supporting engineering centers to ensure program success. The successful candidate will be the primary technical point of contact for CDI's Program Manager, for client interface, and coordination of engineering activities to ensure program management and customer requirements and expectations are met.

 

Project Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Actively work with and understand client needs and validate solutions
  • Provide multi-skilled engineering direction for all engineering and technical subordinates. Subordinates' responsibilities include:
    • DAI design and systems integration of the client's product
    • Modelling and simulation of performance for design optimization.
    • Interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system solution.
    • Evaluate client requirements and operational needs to define and coordinate mission performance requirements
    • Define appropriate modelling and simulation parameters, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
    • Optimize system architecture.
    • Analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, system security, other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
    • Develop the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements, providing an ongoing assessment for risks, issues and opportunities and technology readiness.
    • Resolves cross-functional technical issues
  • Manage and prioritize the flow of work
  • Develop Statement of Works (SOW) and Specifications to satisfy research and development, ongoing and new business requirements
  • Identify and manage changes to the SOWs and Specification, assesses the impact of those changes and incorporates changes into the SOW
  • Support technical negotiations of proposed changes to determine modifications to deliverables, resources, costs and schedules
  • Develop and communicate the program vision and roadmap to direct reports

 

Qualifications

  • Due to ITAR compliance - US Person status required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in appropriate aerospace engineering or related field

 

Preferred skills:

  • Engineering background, ideally within the aviation/aerospace industry
  • Experience leading multi-skilled engineers, technical expertise in multi-systems engineering design and integration
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices (model based development, virtual integration, etc)
  • Proven ability to manage the development and execution of a schedule, work breakdown structure (WBS), Statement of Work (SOW) and other project execution artifacts.
  • Successful experience developing working relationships with aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's) and/or military organizations
  • Experience with formal presentations to leadership, including the generation of the material and presenting it
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications
  • Experience in MS Project
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, sometimes at short notice
